Measuring guide
How to measure your kitchen.
You don’t need to be perfect. We always survey the room before anything is made. Good measurements just make your design session far more useful. Allow 20 minutes and grab a tape measure, a pencil and some paper.
Step by step

Sketch the room
Draw a rough outline of the room from above, including alcoves and chimney breasts. Label each wall A, B, C, D, going clockwise from the door.

Measure each wall
Measure every wall corner to corner at worktop height, about 90cm off the floor. Write each one on your sketch in millimetres.

Ceiling height
Measure floor to ceiling in two or three places, as older homes are rarely level. Note any beams, bulkheads or sloping ceilings.

Windows and doors
For each one, note its width and height and its distance from the nearest corner. For windows, add the sill height from the floor. Mark which way doors swing.

Services
Mark where the sink waste, water pipes, gas, boiler, radiators, sockets and extractor vent are now, and measure each one from the nearest corner.

Take photos
Photograph each wall straight on, plus any awkward corners. Photos help your designer more than you’d think.

Put your numbers in

Work in millimetres
It avoids mix-ups between centimetres and inches. 2.4 metres is 2400mm.

Measure twice
Check each wall a second time, ideally with someone holding the other end of the tape.

Check it’s square
Measure both diagonals of the room. If they differ by more than 10mm, let us know and we’ll allow for it.

Bring it to your design session
Once you’ve priced your kitchen you’ll get your own STAKR portal. Upload your sketch and photos there before your design session, so your designer comes prepared.
